It was 2014 — Brett was leading a National Geographic Student Expedition through Australia and Taylor was working on the Great Barrier Reef. Luckily, we ended up spending three days working on the reef together and we hit it off right away! Both being marine biologists from California we couldn’t believe that it took us being half way around the world to meet. The rest is history!

We were at a dig site in Bakersfield hunting for 15 million year old fossilised shark teeth! Brett was digging and I was on the sieve when, all of a sudden, I discovered an engagement ring amongst the shark teeth! It was honestly the best day of my life! … I mean what more can a girl ask for than fossils and a proposal from the man of my dreams, and all in the romantic hills of Bakersfield!
